Script & Project Development

I work with writers, directors and producers at all stages of development, from an initial idea or treatment to a shooting script through to a finished film. This can include script editing and development, rewriting, detailed notes, restructuring, treatment writing and editing, and writing and editing funding applications, as well as feedback on cuts and creative feedback during post-production.

I can work on a one-off basis or stay involved with a project over a longer period.

Acquisitions & Project Assessment

I have worked in acquisitions throughout my career, including 13 years in UK distribution and, since 2017, as a consultant for international sales agents including mk2 Films. This gives me extensive and current knowledge of the international market, which I draw on when assessing scripts and projects for sales agents, distributors and production companies.

My assessments consider the creative material alongside its potential audience, positioning and prospects in the international market. I can provide one-off project assessments or work with clients on an ongoing basis.

Ongoing Development Consultancy

I work with production companies on an ongoing basis, keeping across the development slate and providing continuity as projects evolve. This also allows me to take a broader view of the slate as a whole, alongside the needs of individual projects.

The work can include regular project discussions, reading and feedback, research, brainstorming, and support with development notes and decisions.

International Project Materials

I write and edit English-language materials for film projects being presented internationally, working from existing materials or directly with producers and filmmakers to shape them from scratch.

This can include synopses, loglines, director’s and producer’s notes, project presentations, pitch materials and other industry-facing texts. I also provide English-language proofreading and editing for scripts and project materials by filmmakers working outside their first language.

For norske filmskapere og produsenter

Jeg tilbyr manusutvikling og dramaturgisk arbeid for norske filmskapere og produsenter, og kan engasjeres som ekstern dramaturg, blant annet i forbindelse med NFIs ordning Manusutvikling fiksjon. Jeg arbeider primært på engelsk, men kan lese og arbeide direkte med norske manus, slik at manuset ikke trenger å oversettes før utviklingsarbeidet begynner.

Jeg oversetter også manus og prosjektmateriale fra norsk til engelsk. Dramaturgi og oversettelse kan gjøres separat eller som en samlet prosess. Når jeg følger et manus gjennom utviklingen og deretter oversetter det, kjenner jeg allerede historien, karakterene og intensjonene bak valgene i teksten. Det gir kontinuitet mellom den norske og engelske versjonen, uten at en ny person må sette seg inn i prosjektet fra bunnen av.

Jeg tilbyr også engelsk språkvask og redigering av prosjektmateriale.

Fees & Working Together

Every project is different, so I quote according to the scope and timescale of the work rather than working from a fixed rate card. I work with both established companies and independent filmmakers, and fees can reflect the scale and resources of the project.

For development work and longer-term collaborations, finding the right fit on both sides is important. I am happy to have an initial call to talk about the project, what you are looking for and how I work before deciding whether to work together.
